A hub to promote start-ups and innovation is being established on the University of Bayreuth campus: the new building for the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (E&I). With the Budget Committee’s approval for funding the construction of E&I, the starting signal has been given for the transition from planning to the building phase of this major project: the university’s E&I institute and the Regional Start-up and Innovation Centre (RIZ), operated by the city and district.

The Gerda Henkel Foundation has approved one million euros for the expansion of Humanitarian Studies in Germany. The four-year project will be based at the Institute of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth under the direction of Prof. Dr. Joël Glasman. Humanitarian studies is a field that investigates how crises arise, how they shape societies, and how they can be overcome – and they are able to offer scientifically sound criticism.

A new chapter is beginning for the Iwalewahaus, Bayreuth’s centre for modern and contemporary African art and culture. With a newly appointed dual leadership team and a clear vision for the future, the institution is positioning itself as a national flagship project –international in its reach and firmly rooted in the region. Dr. Xenia Ressos has been entrusted with the management since May 2025, while Prof. Dr. Natasha A. Kelly took over as artistic director in October.
