University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible expressed enthusiasm about the team: “That Nina Nestler continues to be part of the University’s Governing Board underscores the trust in her excellent work to date and provides us with continuity in a strategically important area. With Volker Ulm, we are gaining an exceptionally well-suited successor to Martin Huber. Volker Ulm is a committed educationalist with extensive experience in the fields that matter most in the area of teaching and student affairs.”

Prof. Dr. Volker Ulm is Chair of Mathematics and Mathematics Education at the University of Bayreuth. He has long been active in teacher training and the development of innovative teaching formats. He serves as Director of the university’s Center for Teacher Education and is a member of the Presidential Commission for Teacher Education.

“As Vice President for Teaching and Learning, I aim to strengthen dialogue with students, enhance teaching quality, and further advance the university’s digital transformation in higher education,” says Prof. Ulm, who will officially begin his term on October 1, 2025.

His predecessor, Prof. Dr. Martin Huber, chose not to stand for re-ecection after four terms in office. President Leible honoured his contributions: “Since 2013, Prof. Huber has played a lasting role in shaping campus life through his work in teaching and student affairs. During the pandemic, he was an essential partner in ensuring teaching could continue. His impact on modern, digitally supported instruction and raising the profile of Bayreuth as a study destination has been invaluable. I extend my heartfelt thanks.”

Martin Huber also served as Chair of the “Bavarian Master Plan for Teacher Education” commission and as spokesperson for Vice Presidents for Teaching within the Uni Bayern association.

Prof. Dr. Nina Nestler, Chair of German and European Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Economic Criminal Law, and International Criminal Law, was also reaffirmed in her role as Vice President for Internationalization, Gender Equality and Diversity. Under her leadership, international collaborations have expanded, and diversity topics have been effectively integrated across the university.

President Leible looks ahead with optimism: “With this executive team, we are committing to experience, innovation, and a high level of dedication to the university’s continued development. I am very much looking forward to working together.”
