
Organization
Even a medium-sized campus university with around 13,500 students needs to be well organised. An overview of our organizational structure.
The University is controlled by its central bodies: The University Governing Board, the Senate, and the University Council. Furthermore, the Faculties are central pillars of the University. They are led by the Dean's Office and the Faculty Council. The Dean's Office implements the decisions of the Faculty Council and conducts the day-to-day business of the faculty.
The University Governing Board and faculties are supported by other advisory bodies, by the Board of Trustees and, of course, by the central facilities such as the library or the IT Service Centre.
Central bodies
The University Governing Board conducts the day-to-day business of the
University and is responsible for establishing principles for evaluation and
quality assurance. The members of the University Governing Board, with the
exception of the President and the Provost, are elected by the University
Council on the proposal of the President.
President
The President represents the University, provides initiatives for the development of the University and drafts the principles of the University's policy objectives. He or she is the supervisor of the academic staff and the Provost. In cooperation with the dean, the president ensures that professors and other persons obliged to teach properly fulfil their teaching and examination obligations.

The Provost is a full-time member of the University Governing Board and is responsible for the area of business and personnel administration. The Provost directs the administration of the University and is responsible for the budget. He or she is the supervisor of the employees of the Free State of Bavaria working at the University as well as of the non-academic employees working for the University.

Women's Representative
The University of Bayreuth promotes the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men, and takes this into account as a guiding principle.
Women's representatives aim to prevent disadvantage arising for female academics, female teachers, and female students. They are elected by the Senate from among the academic and artistic staff working full-time at the University and are members of the Extended University Governing Board and the Senate.

The Senate decides on research priorities and proposals for the establishment of Collaborative Research Centres and Research Training Groups. It decides on proposals for the establishment, amendment, and abolition of degree programmes and comments on appointment proposals decided by appointment committees. Proposals for the appointment of honorary professors and the granting of the title of honorary senator, honorary citizen, or honorary member of the University are also made by the Senate.
The Senate is chaired by the President. He or she informs the University Council of the major decisions of Senate meetings.

The University Council includes the elected members of the Senate and ten leaders from the areas of science and culture, business and professional practice.
The University Council decides on the basic regulations of the University of Bayreuth and elects the President and the other members of the University Governing Board. It decides on proposals for the appointment of the Provost, decides on the development plan of the University and on the establishment, amendment, and abolition of study programmes, as well as the division of the University into faculties.
The University Council gives its opinion on the establishment, modification, or abolition of academic and artistic institutions as well as operational units by the University Governing Board, and also acts in an advisory capacity in certain areas of the budget.

The Council serves to share information about committee activity by academic employees and to coordinate it. The term of office of the spokesperson of the Council is two years.

The Student Parliament (StuPa) consists of the student representatives in the Senate and the University Council, two student representatives appointed from among departmental student representatives, and twelve other elected student representatives. The StuPa's term of office is one year. It is convened at least once a semester during the lecture period by the person chairing it.
The Steering Committee is elected within a reasonable period of time after the elections. This consists of six people, who do not have to be members of the student parliament. They carry out the decisions of the Student Parliament.
The Student Parliament is located in the glass central block adjacent to Central University Administration (ZUV).

The Board of Trustees is intended to support the interests of the University of Bayreuth in public and to advise and promote the University of Bayreuth in its work.
The Board of Trustees comprises up to 20 leaders of business, culture, and politics who are particularly committed to the concerns of the University of Bayreuth. The members are appointed by the University Governing Board for a period of five years. The work in the Board of Trustees is honorary.

The Employee Council has general tasks as well as formal participation rights that allow it to influence decisions of the University of Bayreuth to varying degrees.
