Overview of new degree programmes:
Bachelor's programmes
To switch to green energy, we need new solutions for the storage of renewable energy in the form of batteries or other chemical energy carriers such as hydrogen, and to maintain our standard of living, we need environmentally friendly and efficient packaging and building materials, fertilisers, and medicines, etc. Chemistry as the science of substances and substance transformation is tailor-made to find highly innovative solutions in this regrd. Based on a broad chemical background knowledge, the bachelor's degree programme in "Sustainable Chemistry & Energy" teaches approaches to solutions for a sustainable and innovative future. These includes renewable chemical energy storage, the conversion of classic large-scale processes to "green" CO₂ -neutral alternatives, the recycling of raw materials, and many other exciting topics.

Master's Programmes
Supplying our society with sustainable, non-climate-damaging energy is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. Today we assume that by 2030, global demand for batteries for electric vehicles, stationary storage, and consumer electronics will increase at least 14-fold. This enormous demand is leading to a massive expansion of production capacities throughout Europe and urgently requires highly qualified professionals who have the necessary battery know-how along the entire value chain. The engineering-oriented Bayreuth master's programme "Battery Technology" addresses the central issues of energy storage in an interdisciplinary way, and is training top professionals in the field of battery technology.

During the last two decades it has been proven that environmental and climate changes are related to substantial physical and mental hazards of humans. There is an increase in infectious diseases, in cardiovascular diseases, in allergies as well as a rising incidence in tumor diseases. For an appropriate management of climate-, environment and health-associated difficulties in near future, an emphasis must be given in the understanding of the correlation between environment, climate change and health from a scientific and educational point of view.

Continuing education master's programmes
Climate change and its associated environmental and health impacts are arguably the greatest current challenges to the well-being of the population and the planet. The responsibility for these multiple health risks caused by environmental changes does not lie with the individual or the health sector alone. Only through the commitment and coordinated action of all relevant actors from politics, science and practice will it be possible to sustainably implement and anchor health protection and climate protection. The postgraduate programme "Environment, Climate and Health" therefore aims in particular to promote the action competences of leaders and multipliers in the field of planetary health from different disciplines and sectors in order to enable them to take interdisciplinary transformative action.

Supplementary studies
Our supplementary studies course takes up the basic idea of the Studium Generale, and is aimed at students who are already enrolled at the University of Bayreuth. It is completed parallel to the main course of study, earning participants 30 ECTS points. Students are offered a scientifically sound but at the same time practice-oriented acquisition of competencies in the selected subject area, and will attain key skills and knowledge in the corresponding research category, as well as in its interdisciplinary, occupation-oriented fields of application. This additional qualification is evidenced in the form of a recognized certificate, which may prove useful in the graduate’s further career path.
The aim of AfriZert is to enable participating students to perceive and get to know the African continent in all its diversity: as a multifaceted space of discourse, as a home to a wide variety of living and working environments, and in the context of global political, social and economic interdependencies.

The new International Legal Studies supplementary course of study for law students at the University of Bayreuth offers the unique opportunity to acquire a comprehensive and practice-oriented insight into international law.
Students are introduced to the world of international law, and encounter other countries and their legal systems. In addition, foreign language skills are strengthened, and expertise in the areas of comparative law, business and corporate law, and African perspectives and law is expanded. Legal knowledge and the ability to work with foreign languages are increasingly important criteria in the globalised world, and thereby also in the labour market.
