Applied Theatre: Theatre as Social Work, Master of Arts (M.A.)
In this degree programme, you will work with the methods of applied theatre in an application-oriented way. Theatre becomes a central instrument of social change. The need for people who use creative methods to shape this change is increasing in line with the challenges we face as a society: Demographic changes, climate change, the diverse reality of the post-migrant society. The course (subject to the approval of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts) is the only one of its kind in Germany to combine the subjects of social work (HAW Coburg) and theatre studies/theatre didactics (University of Bayreuth). In practical and solution-oriented activities, the degree programme teaches skills in artistic project development and reflection on one's own actions. Specific skills of social work in the aesthetic-artistic field are taught as well as possibilities of cultural management and artistic research – all of this in cooperation with partner organisations from civil society wherever possible.
With this degree programme, we are breaking new ground in concrete social problem areas. Take the topic of integration, for example. This is about a certain social cohesion, encounters and the communication of democratic values. Applied Theatre can sustainably promote the achievement of these goals.
This degree programme is taught in German.
Good knowledge of German is an essential prerequisite to successfully completing the degree programme. Proof of German language proficiency at B2 level or equivalent is required for admission. For detailed information, please see the German version of the study programme site.
