The campus of the University of Bayreuth has almost everything you need laid out on its leafy grounds, and within walking distance. You can quickly get from one lecture to the next, and don't need to factor in long hikes for lunch at the cafeteria, or for a session in the University library. Nor is our campus at all lacking in leisure activities, either. For example, the University sports grounds contain several tennis courts, the Botanical Garden beckons to take a stroll through its natural worlds, and an ice cream by the Audimax lake is always a good idea. Campus life has another positive side effect: There is more interaction between the faculties than at many other universities, where the buildings of the individual departments are often several kilometres apart.

Interdisciplinarity is one of the tenets of the University of Bayreuth. As a consequence, you will come across courses of study with unusual subject combinations such as Computer Game Studies, Philosophy & Economics, Sport, Business & Law, and professorships that are unique in Germany such as Food Law. In a similar vein, the faculties work across disciplines, too. At the Faculty of Law, Business & Economics (RW), for example, numerous research projects focus on the interfaces between law and the economy. Our range of degree programmes benefits from this. In fact, the University of Bayreuth has occupied top positions in various university rankings for years, especially in law and business administration.

Combining research and practice, the founding idea of the University of Bayreuth in 1975, still applies just as much today. Field internships are still the order of the day. And sometimes your field of research is right on your doorstep. The tutorials and practical courses of the biological and geoscientific courses of studies, for instance, take advantage of the manifold resources of the Botanical Garden on the campus of the University. In both the bachelor’s and master’s programmes, you will be supervised in small groups. You can look forward to close and intensive contact with renowned scientists, who don’t just push forward research, but you, as well. ​

The Bayreuth Faculty of Engineering, or "ING" for short, is focussed on maintaining a high level of practical relevance. And you can already prep for the international job market while pursuing your studies. All engineering courses include an industrial internship, and at the University's language centre you can choose from a variety of foreign languages. Team spirit and project management also play an important role. The student team "Elephant Racing", for example, takes part in the annual "Formula Student" competition. Their aim is to construct a competitive, single-seat racing car to enter in a series of events held at Hockenheim and other European venues.

Student days are more than just university. To settle into your new home in Upper Franconia, you need a comfortable room, a great shared flat, or a nice apartment, somewhere you can relax and have friends over. You have a choice between different halls of residence, some of which are located right next to the campus. Or you can move down town. You can get from campus to the city by bus or bike in a flash - and your Semester Ticket lets you ride all buses in the City of Bayreuth and the District networks for free! By the way, compared to many other university cities, the rents and cost of living in Bayreuth are very reasonable. 

Bayreuth is a charming, cosy student city. With about 75,000 inhabitants, it is not particularly large... but: people do run into each other. Bayreuth's party and pub scene is well and truly the preserve of the students - while the world-famous festival town has a cultural life and leisure opportunities that go far beyond Wagner. Nature lovers, in particular, are well catered for. In fact, Bayreuth lies right between the Fichtelgebirge and the Franken Jura. Just perfect for outdoor, sporting activities like cycling, hiking, climbing and skiing. And if you ever feel like going to a major city, you can choose from Nuremberg, Munich, Leipzig, Berlin, and Prague - all of them easy to reach by train, coach, or car in under four hours.
