Our aim is to create a regional innovation architecture that establishes a far-reaching network between the University of Bayreuth and regional partners from business and society. This architecture supports the development and implementation of technological, social and ecological innovations.
The Open Innovation Lab (OIL), which is linked to the Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (IEI), is at the heart of this. As a central platform, it links university and company innovation labs in the region. The OIL is the hub for collaboration and the exchange of expertise between the university, companies and society. It provides access to the latest scientific knowledge and sustainably strengthens the innovative power of the regional economy.
There is currently a lack of close networking between science, business and society. Many companies, start-ups and organizations have great ideas and potential, but often lack access to the latest knowledge, technological resources and strong networks to fully exploit this potential.
The lack of exchange between the relevant players inhibits the development of innovations and slows down progress - both at a technological and social level.

The "Innovative University" initiative of the federal and state governments promotes the research-based transfer of ideas, knowledge and technology at German universities.
The University of Bayreuth was successful in this nationwide competition with its funding project "RIA - Regional Innovation Architecture for Transformative Change". This underlines its role as a driving force and driver of the regional innovation ecosystem.
