General information; COVID-19 [10.08.2020]:
Coronavirus-related amendments to the BayHSchG and the Coronavirus Regulations: semester/semester of study + standard period of study + repeat examinations
- Summer Semester 2020 does not count as a semester of study with respect to the regular dates and deadlines laid down in the examination reulations. This means that students will not suffer any disadvantages if they are unable to meet examination dates and deadlines due to the special situation in Summer Semester 2020.
These "deadline extensions" occur automatically, meaning that no separate request is necesarry.
In addition, students who were enrolled in a degree programme in Summer Semester 2020 and were not on a leave of absence are generally subject to an "individual" standard period of study that ist one semester longer than the usual standard period of study.
Additional information is available at:
- If, on the other hand, the examination and study regulations set deadlines independent of the semester, Art. 99 para 1 BayHSchG does not apply. For example:
§ 19 para 4 Examination Regulations, Business Administration B.Sc.: " If the missing examinations are not passed within one year of the deadline specified in Paragraph 3, Sentence 1 for reasons for which the student is responsible or if the possibilities for repetition have been exhausted beforehand, the bachelor's examination is considered to be failed on the final attempt."
§ 19 para 1 Examination Regulations, Biology B.Sc.: "As a rule, the repeat examination must be taken within six months, at the latest by the examination period of the following semester.”
These regulations, which are listed as examples, are not directly related to the semester, but generally specify a time limit. Art. 99 para 1 BayHSchG is therefore not applicable to these regulations. However, the Coronavirus Regulations provide for special provisions in § 7 for this constellation, whereby these deadlines are also automatically extended by the time span of the summer semester, i.e. 6 months.
Other special rules can be found in the Coronavirus Regulations: https://www.amtliche-bekanntmachungen.uni-bayreuth.de/de/amtliche-bekanntmachungen/konsolidierteFassungen/2020/2020-074-kF.pdf
