The University as a Driver of Innovation

The University of Bayreuth is a constant driver of the regional innovation ecosystem, and makes an active contribution to securing the future of your company not only by educating bright minds, but also through numerous knowledge transfer offerings and cooperation initiatives with companies.

Together with our regional partners in innovation, we organise countless lectures, community events, workshops, camps, pitch competitions, and innovation meetups every year. The University of Bayreuth offers tailor-made programmes for students, people interested in starting a business, and for companies. The goal here is to connect the different target groups with each other wherever there is special potential to be gained in doing so. Especially the cooperation between start-ups and established companies is of great interest to both sides, and offers manifold opportunities to jointly identify innovation requirements and develop solution strategies. Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (IEI)
With the building of the Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in 2026, a central contact point will be created in the direct entrance area of the campus for all those interested in founding and for founders. Together with the Regional Start-up and Innovation Centre (RIZ) of the city of Bayreuth, the IEI offers teaching and transfer services for students, start-ups and companies and, as a joint, central innovation and transfer location, will once again sustainably expand the innovation ecosystem.

Knowledge and technology transfer has gained immense importance in recent years. The University of Bayreuth recognised this development early on, and has aligned its action and plans accordingly. We will work with you to develop an innovation management system tailored to you and your needs. Technology Alliance of Upper Franconia (TAO): Bundled competency times four

The four universities in Upper Franconia, i.e. the two universities of Bamberg and Bayreuth and the universities of applied sciences in Coburg and Hof, work together under the umbrella of "TechnologieAllianzOberfranken" (TAO). In addition to the partner universities, students, business, and industry all benefit from this – and thereby the entire region.

Renowned universities and colleges, a strong economy, and committed people – the pre-conditions are certainly there in Upper Franconia. TAO's task is to bring these together in order to further develop the region as a centre of science, and make its economy future-proof. Furthermore, TAO seeks to counteract migration to conurbations and an ageing regional population, and consequently receives demographic funding from the Free State of Bavaria.
