In the overall ranking "THE World University Rankings 2024" (WUR) published in September, the University of Bayreuth has already moved up: It is ranked 236th worldwide in the category "Research Environment", and even 222nd in "Industry Collaborations". It also did very well in "Teaching", where it is ranked 361st internationally among the top 20% of universities in the WUR. A total of around 1,900 universities were included in this ranking. A new THE ranking, which has now been published, compares selected subject groups on a global scale.
In the category "Business and Economics", i.e. in the subjects Business Administration (BWL) and Economics (VWL), the University of Bayreuth is ranked 151-175 worldwide. This means that the University of Bayreuth is once again playing in the top league in this field. In a national comparison, it reaches 7th place and is thus one of the best smaller universities in Germany in the field of economics. In terms of research quality in economics, the University of Bayreuth is in 3rd place nationwide.
The University of Bayreuth has risen due to the quality of research in the life sciences and physical sciences. The subject "Life Sciences" includes in particular the subjects Biology and Sports/Sport Science and also the areas in which the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health in Kulmbach conducts research and teaches. The subject "Physical Sciences" includes subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and geosciences.
Engineering sciences at the University of Bayreuth continue to hold a stable position in the 251-300 ranking group. In the subjects "Arts and Humanities" - these are linguistics and literature, history or philosophy - the University of Bayreuth finds itself in the ranking group 301-400, as well as in the Social Sciences (Geography, Development Studies, International Studies).
"Once again, a THE ranking shows: We play in the top league internationally! There are about 14,150 universities in the USA, Europe, India, Africa, Japan and China alone. Not all of them meet the criteria of THE Rankings. Given these estimates, we can say we are among the top 1% of all universities worldwide," explains University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible.
