The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluates various academic disciplines annually, and this year’s edition ranked over 2,000 universities. The University of Bayreuth is represented in 10 subjects. A notable improvement was achieved in the field of Earth Sciences: here, it ranks globally in the 101–150 group, moving up two tiers from last year’s 201–300 group. In Ecology, the University of Bayreuth has maintained its position in the 151–200 group, as in the previous year. Additionally, the university is placed in the 201–300 group internationally in four subjects: Business Administration, Environmental Science & Engineering, Chemistry, and Agricultural Sciences.
The University of Bayreuth also performs exceptionally well in the national comparison: its best result is in Business Administration, where it ranks in the 3–7 group nationwide. Furthermore, it secures a spot in the national Top 10 for Earth Sciences (rank group 6–10).
The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects assesses universities worldwide in around 60 disciplines based on objective research indicators such as publications, citations, and international awards. It draws on data from Web of Science and InCites and focuses on scientific excellence. The ranking is considered one of the leading subject-specific rankings for international comparability among universities.
