Africa Multiple Research Centres
At the beginning of its first funding phase, the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence selected four African partner universities to collaboratively reconfigure African studies. Through joint research into interdisciplinary topics with colleagues at the newly established African Cluster Centres (ACCs), innovative forms of knowledge production were developed, actively involving non-academic actors. The ACCs were granted greater autonomy in pursuing the shared research agenda by managing their own project funds through formal agreements. In the second funding phase, the University of Bayreuth and the four ACC locations will evolve into five interconnected Africa Multiple Research Centres (AMRCs), all equally contributing to the implementation of the research agenda. This structure enhances the role of the African AMRCs as continental hubs for collaborative scientific initiatives and networking activities. These initiatives encompass interdisciplinary research projects, the promotion of early-career researchers, a mobility programme to foster exchange between cluster sites, and various knowledge transfer formats targeting non-academic audiences.
