Studying together, making music together: University of Bayreuth and HfK deepen cooperation

The University of Bayreuth and the University of Protestant Church Music Bayreuth (HfK) have signed a new cooperation agreement. It replaces the existing agreement concluded in 2018 and will come into force in the 2026/27 winter semester.

At the heart of the agreement is reciprocal access to courses: in future, students at the University of Bayreuth will be able – subject to available capacity – to take modules and courses at the HfK, while participation in ensembles and individual lessons will require proof of the necessary vocal or instrumental aptitude. Conversely, students at the HfK will be able to attend courses at the University of Bayreuth in the field of educational science within teacher training programmes, as well as music-related modules in music and theatre studies. Participating students will be enrolled at the other institution under the cooperation agreement and will receive official records of the examinations and assessed coursework they complete. Each institution will bear the costs it incurs in providing these opportunities.

For University President Prof. Dr Stefan Leible, the agreement is a win-win situation: “This partnership strengthens the artistic and academic profile of Bayreuth as a centre of higher education and opens up new academic perspectives for our students.”

HfK Rector Prof. Wolfgang Döberlein also welcomed the signing of the agreement: “This partnership is a major benefit for our students – and a strong statement for Bayreuth as a centre of higher education.”
