University of Bayreuth cooperates with OTH Amberg-Weiden in the field of vocational training

The University of Bayreuth and the East Bavarian University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden (OTH) have recently started cooperating in the training of teachers for vocational schools, thus countering the shortage of teachers. The strategic partnership ensures that after successfully completing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Education at OTH Amberg-Weiden, students can take up a Master's degree in Vocational Education at the University of Bayreuth.

The two universities have signed a cooperation agreement for the training of teachers for vocational schools. In the course of this, the study programmes were coordinated in such a way that a meaningful and targeted competence development of the students across the locations is made possible and the growing demands on vocational education can be met. Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Engineering Education at OTH Amberg-Weiden can now seamlessly and in a coordinated manner enter the Master's degree programme in Vocational Education at the University of Bayreuth. There, they will have the opportunity to further deepen their competences in the areas of subject science, vocational pedagogy and technology didactics and, with the Master's degree, to fulfil the admission requirement for the preparatory service for the teaching profession at vocational schools.

"We are pleased about the constructive cooperation that has created the conditions for the successful cooperation as well as for the further cooperation and wish our students much success on their way to the teaching profession - which is now also possible via Amberg and Bayreuth," says the head of the study programme Prof. Dr. rer. pol. habil. (Dipl.-Hdl.) Mandy Hommel from the OTH Amberg-Weiden. "In addition, the agreement is an important step in promoting the next generation of teachers and strengthening vocational education in the region," adds Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Glatzel, Chair of Metallic Materials at the University of Bayreuth.

At the Bayreuth University School of Industrial Technology (BS 1 BT), which is jointly responsible for vocational education and technical didactics training in the Master's programme, they are also pleased about the agreement. "It is great that we can now welcome not only students from our own Bachelor's programme, but also graduates from OTH Amberg-Weiden to our Master's courses. School thrives on diversity, which is why the cooperation enriches our work and the joint deepening of teaching-related competences immensely," says the lecturer for the subject didactics of technology StR Moritz Dier (M. Ed.).

The cooperation agreement between the two universities facilitates the cross-location path from the Bachelor's programme in Engineering Education to the Master's programme in Vocational Education, leads to an optimal coordination of the study contents between the partners and promotes exchange. In addition, the students benefit from the close proximity, the excellent supervision at both universities and a flexible cooperation.
