Scientific conference on Sinti and Roma at the University of Bayreuth

The Institute for Franconian Regional History at the University of Bayreuth is organising the academic conference "Sinti and Roma in History and Memory. European and Regional Perspectives" on 28 and 29 September 2023 at the Iwalewahaus, Wölfelstraße 2, 95444 Bayreuth.

This event is being held in cooperation with the Association of German Sinti and Roma (Landesverband Bayern e.V.) and the Protestant Working Group on Antiziganism in Bavaria and promises to be an important step towards promoting understanding of the history and heritage of the Sinti and Roma in Europe. The conference offers a platform for interdisciplinary discussions and an insight into current research projects. Among other things, it will deal with cross-epochal research on antiziganist ideas, the compensation procedures for Sinti and Roma after the Nazi regime as well as cross-border state persecution measures.

The Bavarian State Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and Against Anti-Semitism, for Remembrance Work and Historical Heritage, Dr. Ludwig Spaenle, will participate in the event, as will the Chairman of the State Association of German Sinti and Roma in Bavaria, Erich Schneeberger.

The entire programme is available on the website of the Institute of Franconian Regional History: https://www.iflg-thurnau.de/tagung-sinti-und-roma/ Participation in this conference is free of charge, but for organisational reasons, prior registration by e-mail is requested. Please send your registrations to: info@iflg-thurnau.de.

Representatives of the press are cordially invited to attend this conference or parts of it and to report on the discussions and findings.
