The “Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects” evaluates various academic subject areas. A total of 2,500 universities were examined. Bayreuth was ranked in a total of ten subjects. Bayreuth's expertise in the field of environmental sciences is particularly striking. In the field of “Ecology”, the University of Bayreuth is ranked 151-200 worldwide, placing it in 10th place in Germany together with four other universities. In the fields of “Earth Sciences” and “Agricultural Sciences”, “Environmental Sciences & Engineering” and “Geography”, the University of Bayreuth is ranked 201-300 worldwide.
In the field of “Business Administration”, UBT is also in the 201-300 ranking group worldwide and is therefore in 4th place among German universities, together with the Technical University of Munich, among others.
Overall, the University of Bayreuth has improved significantly in recent years, rising from the 701-800 ranking group in 2022 to the 401-500 ranking group in 2024.
The “Shanghai Ranking” evaluates the research performance of universities worldwide on the basis of publications in important journals such as “Nature” and “Science”, the citation rates of scientists on the Web of Science and various research awards.
