Research Associate (m/f/d) in Polymer Engineering with the Opportunity to Pursue a PhD

Chair of Polymer Engineering

The Chair of Polymer Engineering, headed by Prof. Holger Ruckdäschel, is seeking to fill a position for

a Research Associate (m/f/d) 

as part of a publicly funded DFG research project in the field of recyclable fibre-reinforced composites. The project focuses on the development and formulation of novel cleavable epoxy resin systems enabling high-value circular use of fibre-reinforced composites. The objective is to establish a fundamental understanding of the relationships between the chemical structure of the resin systems, their material properties, and the recycling and reuse behaviour of both matrix and reinforcing fibres. Experimental research is complemented by data-driven materials development, machine learning, and digital models to predict and tailor the properties of future materials even before they are manufactured.

Your Profile:

An above-average university degree (Diplom or Master's) in one of the following disciplines:

  • Materials Science / Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering / Polymer Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering / Process Engineering
  • Physics or Chemistry with experience in polymer science
  • Computer Science / Data Science / Artificial Intelligence with experience in polymer science


In addition, you have a strong interest in scientific research in the field of polymer engineering. You are highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently. You demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a very good command of written and spoken English. Additional experience in computer science, digitalisation, or sustainability is considered an advantage.
