Research Assistant (m/f/d) as national rapporteur for Scandinavia and Baltic States (Pay Grade 13 TV-L)

A vacancy is available at the Faculty of Law and Economics, within the Chair of German and European Consumer Law, Private Law and Comparative Law held by Prof. Dr Martin Schmidt-Kessel, with effect from 1 September 2026, for the position of

on a fixed-term basis. The position is initially for 100 per cent of the regular weekly working hours of a full-time employee and will be reduced to 50 per cent from 1 February 2027.

The post is fixed-term until 31 December 2027. The role involves contributing to the comparative law research project ‘Changes to online platforms and consumers’ expectations of continuity’ and does not include any teaching duties. Requirements for appointment include a university degree in Law (Master’s level) qualifying for doctoral study or a First State Examination; an interest in working independently to fulfil the aforementioned tasks; a sufficient command of English and at least one Scandinavian or Baltic language; a team spirit; and an interest in comparative law, the law of obligations, digitalisation and consumer law. We offer a fantastic team, a highly international environment, intensive research supervision including training in comparative legal methodology, and exciting and highly topical research areas.

The post is fixed-term in accordance with the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) and is intended to support academic qualification (doctoral degree), but is also suitable for the postdoctoral phase.
