IT-Specialist (m/f/d) in the Research Data Management team – Presentation Systems for Scientific Collections
is to be filled starting March 1, 2026.
Your Responsibilities:
- Administration, further development, and maintenance of the collection presentation system for publishing scientific collections in research data management
→ based on the open-source software Omeka S - Customization and configuration of Omeka S modules and themes for the presentation and structuring of scientific content
- Integration of the system into the existing IT infrastructure and research data management workflows
- Technical support and error analysis during ongoing operations
- Collaboration with researchers and central institutions to support the publication and long-term presentation of collections
- Documentation of processes, interfaces, and technical solutions
- Participation in the design and implementation of quality assurance and long-term preservation measures
Your Profile:
- Experience in administering and customizing Omeka S is desirable, especially:
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of instances
- Management of user roles and access rights
- Handling data objects in the context of the Omeka S data model
- Knowledge in web application development, especially with:
- PHP (for development and customization of Omeka S)
- JavaScript, HTML, CSS (for customizing themes and user interfaces)
- JSON-LD, RDF, REST APIs (for semantic data processing and interface integration)
- Experience with Linux server administration and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, MariaDB)
- Familiarity with metadata schemas such as Dublin Core, DataCite, MODS, MARC21, or other relevant standards in research data management
- Understanding of requirements in research data management, especially in the context of digital collections
- Excellent German and English language skills
- High level of commitment and initiative
- Strong communication and social skills
- Willingness to independently learn new topics
- Team-oriented working style, motivation, and willingness for regular and continuous professional development

Remuneration is based on pay group 13 TV-L. The place of work is Bayreuth. The position is initially limited to two years. An extension is generally possible upon successful performance until December 31, 2032.
