The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. At the University of Bayreuth, the Professorship Mobile Computing and Telemedicine has now a vacancy for a full-time

The position is temporarily limited for 2 years and will be paid according to the German public-sector level E13.

The term of this position is fixed in accordance with the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) and is intended to promote academic qualification. The exact duration and scope of the employment are determined by legal as well as personal requirements. In all other respects, the hiring requirements under the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) apply.

The research area of the professorship Mobile Computing and Telemedicine includes human-centred interaction design for medical data and AI systems, digital collaboration and telemedical care across distances, as well as digital health education and empowerment of students and patients.

Your task: 

• Independent research in the core areas of the professorship
• Assist with setting up research infrastructure
• Assist with applications for third-party fundingDevelopment and evaluation of interaction techniques as well as systems for collaboration and health education
• Publication in research journals and presentation of research results at (inter)national conferences
• Supervision of theses (incl. co-supervision of PhD students)
• Assist with teaching

Your profile: 

• A good to very good PhD in computer science/medical engineering with a focus on human-computer interaction, human-computer interaction, or closely related disciplines (applicants with their PhD thesis submitted and defense pending are also motivated to apply)
• Good programming skills for interactive systems (e.g. Unity, web design, Python)
• Proficient knowledge of HCI concepts (e.g. user-centred design and evaluation)
• Relevant experience with experimental design, both quantitative and qualitative, including statistical data analysis
• Excellent English language skills in speech and writing, and basic German skills for social interaction with students and staff
• Enthusiasm for methods related to human-computer interaction and relevant subject areas (health)
• Experience in the following is optional but beneficial: teaching and third-party funding acquisition
• Enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration and responsibility
• Interest in practical research
• Independent, reliable and flexible way of working
