Full Professor of Biochemistry
at salary grade W3 to commence on or after 01.04.2027. This is a permanent civil service position.
The future incumbent will be responsible for representing current research topics on the structure, molecular function, and mechanisms of biomacromolecules, incorporating modern biochemical and structural biology methods (e.g., cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, or single-molecule techniques) and will be internationally recognized for their own research activities. Cooperation within the University of Bayreuth’s existing research institutes and networks, in particular the Bayreuth Centre for Molecular Biosciences, “Molecules, Life & AI”, and “Polymers & Interfaces”, as well as the associated research groups, and a willingness to advance coordinated projects are expected. In teaching, he/she should represent the subject of biochemistry in its entirety in the bachelor's programme Biochemistry, the master's programme Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and other relevant programmes at the University of Bayreuth. The ability to teach in English and German is expected.
In addition to the general legal requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so (Art. 60 para 3 BayHIG).
