Your master's. Set your own course.

Now that you have your bachelor's degree, you would like to deepen your knowledge or pursue your own research? Are you looking to better position yourself for a successful career? Or maybe you would like to introduce a whole new direction to your previous education by taking a non-linear career path to an exciting new field? If so, pursuing a master's degree may be just the thing for you. A master's gives you greater flexibility. It enables you to develop an area of specialization and offers many valuable experiences.

Find a master's programme that's right for you.

More and more students are coming to Bayreuth to pursue their master's degrees. That is probably because the University aims to attract top researchers and provide its students with the best possible conditions in strategically selected subject areas.  The University of Bayreuth is a tight-knight campus community, and it’s just the right size. You will come to appreciate our "flatter" hierarchies, our direct approach to communication, and having everything you need in one place. Everyone on campus is given the opportunity to contribute to the continual development of the University by getting involved in the University's decision-making process. We are also well-connected internationally, maintaining over 150 partnerships with foreign universities. Our master's programmes are characterized by the interdisciplinary approach of the Bayreuth Model and the innovative collaboration that is carried out between many of our subject areas.

How to apply for a master's programme

Some master's programmes require you to submit an application, while others do not. If you have any questions, please contact the programme advisor for the relevant master's programme. Admission of applicants who did not earn their bachelor's degrees at the University of Bayreuth generally requires separate approval in the form of an equivalency report to be provided by the board of examiners.

Following admission or approval by the board of examiners, the official enrolment deadlines apply to all master's programmes with the exception of Business Administration, Health Economics and Business Administration & Engineering.

Studying individual modules

The University of Bayreuth provides all students with the opportunity to complete supplementary programmes in theatre education or teaching German as a foreign language.  You can also study individual modules to help meet your personal and professional goals. Students can select modules from our bachelor’s and master’s programmes, take the exam at the end, and earn credits and a certificate. Further details are available from the Student Administration Office. We have put together an overview of the individual modules that can be studied each semester. In addition, students of the University of Bayreuth can take course online via the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern, which also offers a number of courses in English.
