The THE World University Rankings by Subject 2025 compares selected subject groups on a global scale. The University of Bayreuth achieved significant progress in two subject areas. Particularly noteworthy is its rise in “Arts and Humanities,” now ranked in the 251–300 band. This field encompasses Language & Literature, History, Philosophy, as well as Cultural and Theatre Studies. This success highlights the university’s ongoing advancements in research and teaching within these disciplines.
The University of Bayreuth also made a remarkable leap in “Computer Science,” improving its position to the 401–500 ranking band. “Computer Science” includes areas such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, and digital technologies, which are becoming increasingly significant in research and education.
“These improvements in the THE ranking demonstrate that the University of Bayreuth continues to strengthen its position in key areas. The rise in the subjects ‘Arts and Humanities’ and ‘Computer Science’ attests to the high quality of our work and our international competitiveness,” explained University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. “We will continue striving to excel in important future-oriented fields and to provide the best possible support for our students and researchers.”
In the category “Business and Economics,” which includes Business Administration and Economics, the University of Bayreuth is again ranked in the 151–175 band worldwide, maintaining its position in the global elite. The university has also held its strong ranking in the categories “Life Sciences” and “Physical Sciences.” “Life Sciences” includes subjects such as Biology, Sports Science, and the research and teaching areas of the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition, and Health in Kulmbach. “Physical Sciences” covers disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth Sciences. The Engineering Sciences at the University of Bayreuth also remain stable in the 251–300 ranking band.
