University of Bayreuth, Press Release No 088 - 20 August 2024

University of Bayreuth moves up further in one of the most important rankings

In the current, internationally important Shanghai Ranking, the University of Bayreuth has moved up into the 401-500 ranking group. The ranking examined more than 2,500 universities worldwide, 1,000 of which - including only 51 German universities - were ranked.

This once again confirms the University of Bayreuth's research strength and continues its success on the international stage: while in 2022 it was still in the 701-800 ranking group and in the top 40-43 nationally, this year it landed in the 401-500 ranking group and is in the top 30-35 nationally.

The ranking includes categories such as “Academic per capita performance of an institution (PCP)”, “Highly Cited Researchers (HiCi)” and “Publications in the renowned journals Nature and Science (N&S)”. In terms of academic performance per capita, Bayreuth's researchers as a whole are ranked 125th worldwide. In terms of the number of publications in the journals Nature and Science, the University of Bayreuth is also among the top 200 worldwide at 189th place.

More than 2,500 universities worldwide were examined for the 2024 ranking, and the best 1,000 universities were ranked. There are 51 German universities in the overall ranking.      The Shanghai Ranking, officially the “Academic Ranking of World Universities”, has been published annually since 2003 and is carried out by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
