The conference, entitled “Behind the Data: Quantitative Approaches in Interdisciplinary Racism Research”, aims to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation and help shape policy: By involving civil society, research is directly linked to action-oriented approaches and policy-making, thus finding its way into the real world. Researchers from various disciplines are invited - from economics and sociology to education, psychology, health research, geography and media studies.
Keynote speakers are: Prof. Dr. William A. Darity (economist from Duke University), Dr. Dharmi Kapadia (sociologist from the University of Manchester), Prof. Dr. Andreas Zick (social psychologist at Bielefeld University). Organizers are Prof. Dr. Stefan Ouma, Chair of Economic Geography, University of Bayreuth and Prof. Dr. Irena Kogan, Chair of Sociology, Comparative Society, University of Mannheim
One of the main aims of the conference is to introduce and expand the use of quantitative approaches, including “big data”, in racism research. At the same time, empirical approaches will be subjected to critical theoretical scrutiny at the conference. The event will also serve as a platform for junior and established researchers to present their work, exchange ideas and build networks that will feed into future research and anti-racism policy
