The QS World University Ranking is one of the most renowned international university rankings. Since 2024, the Europe-wide QS ranking has been published as an independent ranking and evaluates European universities according to quality indicators such as academic reputation, research performance, internationalisation, and the student learning experience.
The University of Bayreuth (UBT) performs particularly well in the category of internationalisation: In the area of Outbound Exchange Students, it ranks 30th in Europe and 4th within Germany. This highlights the importance of international exchange programmes at the University of Bayreuth as well as the extensive opportunities available for UBT students to spend a semester abroad. The university also excels in Inbound Exchange Students – students who come to Bayreuth for at least one semester abroad – ranking 157th in Europe and 8th nationwide. In additional international categories such as International Research Network or International Faculty Ratio, the University of Bayreuth consistently remains among the top 200 universities.
The university also receives positive recognition for its student support: In the Faculty Student Ratio, which measures the proportion of academic staff to students, the University of Bayreuth ranks 105th in Europe and 25th within Germany. Sustainability is another area in which UBT performs strongly, ranking 153rd in Europe and 21st nationwide.
“Being placed among the top 20 percent of European universities affirms our commitment to combining excellent research and teaching with international networking. We are particularly proud of the many opportunities our students have to gain experience abroad. This demonstrates how actively we promote and embody international exchange,” says University President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Stefan Leible. The University of Bayreuth will continue to pursue its goals of fostering an open-minded campus, global networks, and lived diversity, as outlined in its 2021 Internationalisation Strategy.
