The University of Bayreuth is pleased to welcome Professor Perena Gouma, an internationally distinguished scientist. The holder of the Edward Orton Jr. Chair in Ceramics Engineering at The Ohio State University was recently honored with the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Award and has now begun the first phase of her research stay in Germany, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, at the University of Bayreuth. Her host is Prof. Ralf Moos, Chair of Functional Materials at the Faculty of Engineering Science.
Two additional research visits to the University of Bayreuth are planned for 2027. In total, the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award enables research stays of between six and twelve months at German research institutions.
The scientific partnership between Prof. Gouma and Prof. Moos spans more than two decades. Both share a strong interest in innovative functional materials and advanced chemical sensor systems. The current research stay will further strengthen and deepen this long-standing collaboration. Their joint work promises new scientific insights in the fields of materials science and sensor technology while also enhancing the international visibility of Bayreuth as a center of research excellence.
In addition to collaborating with Professor Moos and his team, Prof. Gouma’s stay will create new opportunities for interdisciplinary research projects involving scholars from a wide range of disciplines across the University of Bayreuth.
“Long-term international collaborations are a key driver of scientific innovation. Professor Gouma’s visit highlights the University of Bayreuth’s attractiveness as a partner for outstanding research and opens up new perspectives for the joint development of future-oriented technologies,” says Moos.
