University of Bayreuth, Press Release No. 031/2025 – 01.04.2025
Ibrahim Yanik, Research Associate at the University of Bayreuth, Honoured by Science Minister Blume
Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Markus Blume, has honoured Ibrahim Yanik, a research associate at the Chair of Civil Law III at the University of Bayreuth, for his outstanding achievements in teaching. With the “Prize for Good Teaching,” the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts recognises the work of educators at state universities in Bavaria.
Since November 2020, Ibrahim Yanik has been a research associate at the Chair of Civil Law, German and International Civil Procedure Law (Civil Law III) at the University of Bayreuth. During this qualification phase, he not only fulfils his teaching duties but also conducts independent tutorials, which are particularly praised by students. His teaching approach is characterised by case studies, where solutions to pre-distributed questions are developed collaboratively, making his instruction highly student-oriented. The case solutions are worked out using rigorous legal methodology and systematics, providing students with significant added value in their education. Yanik developed this course on his own initiative, beyond his official teaching responsibilities, and actively addresses students' weaknesses. “Moreover, Mr Yanik manages to challenge and support students in a positive learning environment, significantly enhancing their learning success. His expectations are clearly communicated, and students appreciate him as a young, highly dedicated, and ambitious tutor,” the award citation states.
Professor Dr. Christoph Krönke, Dean of Studies, remarked: “Mr Yanik’s courses are characterised by a relaxed atmosphere, allowing students not only to acquire substantive knowledge and practical skills but also to enjoy engaging with legal topics. The high demand for his courses and their consistently outstanding evaluations by students come as no surprise.”
During the award ceremony, Blume addressed the recipients: “Whether through interactive courses, self-produced video podcasts, or particularly practice-oriented teaching—each of you is a pioneer and a role model. As outstanding educators, you also represent the high quality of teaching provided by our approximately 63,000 lecturers across Bavaria. One thing is clear: excellent teaching attracts students. Prospective students carefully consider their choice of university, and good teaching makes a real difference. Those who not only impart knowledge but also inspire enthusiasm for their subject ensure that today’s talents become tomorrow’s top experts. We are proud and grateful that you are teaching in Bavaria.”
Ibrahim Yanik’s nomination was based on his exceptional teaching performance and was explicitly recommended by the student parliament. This recommendation was supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics—Department of Law, and the President of the University of Bayreuth. In addition to his role at the university, Yanik is also an instructor in first aid and emergency medical training, an employee in the emergency medical services, and a part-time lecturer at vocational schools for paramedics in Bayreuth, Fürth, and Lauf an der Pegnitz, as well as an official examiner for the state qualification exam.
