As a unique exchange platform between practice and science around American football, the American Football Summit benefits from current research at the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Bayreuth. Here, for example, research is being conducted into the international marketing of sports leagues such as the American National Football League (NFL) and the German Football League (DFL). Researchers at the Bayreuth campus are also looking at what German fans find interesting about American football. All of these aspects will provide exciting starting points for discussions on November 7.
Top-class guests and an exciting program
As last year, presenter and sports reporter Christoph “Icke” Dommisch (formerly ran NFL) will host the program. Guests already confirmed include:
- Kevin Abrams (Senior Vice President of the New York Giants)
- Zeljko Karajica (CEO of the European League of Football)
- Thomas Krohne (owner of the Munich Ravens)
- Oliver Luck (former NFL quarterback)
Further speakers will be announced shortly.
Interactive experiences
In addition to informative presentations, visitors can look forward to a football arena run by the Bayreuth Dragons. Here, everyone can test their skills in practice and become a player themselves.
The American Football Summit as an example of internationalization in practice at the Bayreuth campus is the result of a partnership between Ohio University and the University of Bayreuth: During a guest professorship by Prof. Dr. David Ridpath of Ohio University in Bayreuth, Oliver Luck, former President of NFL Europe, spoke as a guest speaker about the internationalization strategy of the NFL. In the subsequent discussion about the NFL's plans in Germany, the idea for the American Football Summit at the University of Bayreuth was born, initiated by Prof. Dr. Tim Ströbel (Chair of Marketing & Sports Management) and Dr. Markus Seufert (Department of Economics).
