Bayreuth instead of Baku

Forum 1.5 is organizing a regional climate conference in Bayreuth parallel to the World Climate Conference in Baku (COP29). A conference on education for sustainable development (ESD) will kick off RegioCOP2024 on October 16.

With the Regional Climate Conference for Upper Franconia, Forum1.5 and its cooperation partners want to continue the tradition of raising awareness of the transformation to sustainability locally in parallel to the World Climate Conference (COP29 BAKU) - in line with the motto: “Act regionally to change globally”, Forum 1.5 invites interested parties from Upper Franconia to the 2nd RegioCOP.

The focus of the conference week is on the various thematic sub-conferences, which will take place in Bayreuth from 11 to 21 November 2024. These sub-conferences will discuss the current status of climate protection measures and identify challenges and opportunities. Above all, however, the aim is to develop framework conditions that can decisively advance climate protection in the respective topic area. The result of each workshop will be a list of demands that will be incorporated directly into the final document of the climate conference.

  • Preparation starts on Oct 16, 9-12 am: a workshop on “Education for Sustainable Development & Designing an ESD Educational Landscape at Iwalewahaus (Wölfelstr.2). It consists of an introductory lecture on education for sustainable development by Kirstin Wolf (University of Bayreuth) and a “future workshop”. The lecture can also be attended online.
  • The kick-off event is on Nov 11, 4 p.m. at the Evangelisches Bildungswerk Bayreuth.
  • This will be followed by the RegioCOP themed conferences
  • The final event will take place on Nov 21, 2 pm in the Festsaal of the Studierendenwerk Oberfranken. The aim of this final conference is to discuss the demands across all topics and together with decision-makers from society, politics and business and to record them in a resolution.
