New Members Appointed to University of Bayreuth’s Board of Trustees

Effective 1 July 2026, three new members have been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the University of Bayreuth. In addition, the University Governing Board also renewed the appointments of two members for a further five-year term.

Newly appointed to the Board of Trustees are Philipp Ebbinghaus, CEO of Sandler AG, Jonas Gleich, District Administrator of the Kulmbach district, and Dr. Andreas Zippel, Mayor of Bayreuth.

With Philipp Ebbinghaus, Jonas Gleich, and Dr. Andreas Zippel, we are welcoming three individuals who shape their respective fields with great dedication and who will bring valuable perspectives to the work of our Board of Trustees," says Heribert Trunk, chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

As CEO of Sandler AG, Philipp Ebbinghaus heads an internationally active family-owned company headquartered in Schwarzenbach an der Saale. As District Administrator, Jonas Gleich represents the interests of the Kulmbach district and is committed to the region’s further development. In his role as Mayor of Bayreuth, Dr. Andreas Zippel plays a key role in shaping the future of the Universitätsstadt.

Reappointed for a further term are Henry Schramm, President of the Upper Franconia’s District Council, and Frank Carsten Herzog, Managing Partner of the HZG Group.

"We are equally delighted that Henry Schramm and Frank Carsten Herzog have once again agreed to contribute their experience and networks to the work of the Board of Trustees," says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. "For many years, both have supported the development of our university with great commitment and have made a valuable contribution to strengthening its connections within the region and the business community."

The University of Bayreuth’s Board of Trustees was established in 2013. The body comprises distinguished figures from business, culture, politics, and society. It supports the university’s development in an advisory capacity and promotes dialogue between the university and the public.

Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the University Governing Board for a five-year term. It represents the interests of the University of Bayreuth in the public sphere and advises the University Governing Board on strategic matters.
