UBT-Quiz to mark the anniversary
50 years – 50 questions and an evening full of eye-opening moments

On October 28, 2025, people puzzled, laughed, and learned at the Kulturquartier Bayreuth during the first big university quiz to mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Bayreuth. Under the motto “50 years – 50 questions”, 21 teams of five bright minds competed against each other to demonstrate their knowledge of the university, the city, and all kinds of curiosities.
From toilet bowls to titan arum

The questions were as colorful as campus life itself – and often surprising. Who would have thought that there are exactly 761 toilet bowls on the grounds of the University of Bayreuth? Or that the titan arum, the largest flower in the world, has its origins in the rainforest of Sumatra – and can also be admired in the university's Ecological-Botanical Garden?

Prominent teams with quiz ambitions
Particularly exciting: prominent teams also took part! The “University Management Team” with University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible, Vice Presidents Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach, Prof. Dr. Nina Nestler, Vice President Prof. Dr. Volker Ulm, and Women's Representative Prof. Dr. Heike Feldhaar showed that leadership skills and quiz knowledge complement each other perfectly.
Winning team: “Mein persönlicher Favorit”
In the end, however, the well-coordinated team “Mein persönlicher Favorit” prevailed – with a clear head and keen intuition. The prize was five anniversary T-shirts, certificates, samples of the university anniversary beer and, above all, lots of applause from their fellow contestants.

Atmosphere, snacks, and clever minds

The evening was hosted by quiz pro Andreas Türk, known from the Bayreuth pub quiz. The atmosphere was relaxed, communicative, and full of eye-opening moments. Over snacks and drinks, people talked shop, laughed, and marveled – and in the end, everyone probably went home a little smarter than when they arrived.
Conclusion: A quiz that sticks
The university quiz was more than just a game – it was a celebration of knowledge, encounters, and curiosity. A successful contribution to the anniversary year that leaves us wanting more. Maybe again soon?
