Bayreuth master's student accepted into the Bavarian Elite Academy

More than 1,000 of the best students from all over Bavaria applied for a scholarship from the Bavarian Elite Academy this year. David Schroff-Spiering, a master's student in business administration in Bayreuth, is one of 37 students to be selected.

After an extensive selection process, the 24th cohort of the Bavarian Elite Academy (BEA) has been determined. Twenty female students and 17 male students from 11 Bavarian universities were accepted into the foundation after a three-stage selection process – among them David Schroff-Spiering, a student at the University of Bayreuth. For him, a two-year, programme alongside his studies, the costs of which will be covered by the scholarship, will begin with the topic of leadership and responsibility.

"I see the BEA programme as a wonderful opportunity for critical self-reflection, relationship building with inspiring individuals and deepening my ethical understanding of leadership, among other things," says David Schroff-Spiering. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Philipps University Marburg before coming to Bayreuth. Here, his focus is on Finance & Entrepreneurship. In addition to his outstanding achievements in his studies, Schroff-Spiering was also able to shine with his social commitment during his application. He took on responsibility early on by getting involved in youth camps, where he also took over the supervision of children and youth groups.

He also worked in a student consultancy that, among other things, planned marketing projects for the local food bank free of charge.

"The Bavarian Elite Academy aims to support diversely talented and highly committed young people in becoming responsible leaders. In doing so, we are sending a clear signal against a false understanding of elites who are only concerned with personal gain," says Prof. Dr. Dr. Johannes Wallacher, Chairman of the Foundation and Academic Director of the Bavarian Elite Academy. "At the BEA, we are concerned with promoting a responsible elite, i.e. people with a clear attitude who want to help shape our common future in a sustainable way. Especially in times of great uncertainty, it is important to find one's own compass. Only then can you, as a leader, give orientation to others."

The scholarship comprises four intensive attendance phases including a stay abroad during the lecture-free period. The programme includes seminars, workshops, outdoor days and fireside evenings with high-profile guests. Training also includes an extensive mentoring programme and project work.

Applications for the next round will be accepted from 1 October 2022 to 11 December 2022.
