Data Curator (m/f/d) (TV-L, E-13, 100%) Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence


The successful applicant will be hired until the end of December 2025. The position will be under the leadership of the Vice Dean of Digital Solutions in the Cluster of Excellence. The post holder´s main responsibility is research data management in the Cluster as a part of the Digital Research Environment (DRE). For the research data the graph-based management system WissKI is used. The work is in close cooperation with the Research Data Management Team of the University. The cluster has four partner universities in Africa and more privileged partners. The aim is to integrate their research data also into the Digital Research Environment.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Setup, support and improvement of a WissKI system as a central part of the DRE
  • Curating research data in close communication with researchers
  • Developing interdisciplinary data models
  • Making metadata structures of our system interchangeable with the systems at our partner universities
  • Visits to partner universities
  • Proactive participation in transferring research data into data management systems


Your Profile:

  • Preferably a university master’s degree in Information Sciences or Digital Humanities
  • Programming skills and software development experience (e.g. Python, PHP)
  • Work experience or knowledge of metadata and databases (preferably graph databases)
  • Experience in project team work; good planning skills and a self-motivated, proactive attitude
  • Communication skills (presentation, negotiation, explanation)
  • Interpersonal/social skills and an open mind for working in an international environment 
  • Excellent command of English


Additional Assets would be: 

  • Research experience or PhD in Computer Science, Digital Humanities
  • Text mining related skills, tag analysis
  • Experience or knowledge in either wikidata, WissKI or Drupal
  • Knowledge of data privacy, copy right law and exploitation right
  • Knowledge of thesauri and controlled vocabulary
  • German or French speaking ability
