At the university of Bayreuth, Electrical Energy Systems research group, the position of 

Research Associate in Battery Technology (pay group E 13 TV-L)


is to be filled as soon as possible on a full-time basis. The position is provisionally limited to one year. 

In the research group of Electrical Energy Systems (EES) and at the Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt), research is being conducted on the next generation of lithium-ion and post-lithium batteries. The engineering sciences make a significant contribution to this through research into testing and characterization methods, modelling , battery management and operating strategies. 

Your area of responsibility:

The tasks include, on the one hand, active independent research: developing models, methods and prototypes, setting up, conducting and evaluating experiments and publishing results. It is possible to do a doctorate. On the other hand, participation in teaching (5 SWS) in the form of lectures and supervision of student work is a central task.

Within the framework of research projects, electrical energy storage systems such as lithium-ion batteries are investigated and further developed by the research group. Your specific area of responsibility includes

  • the experimental and theoretical investigation and modelling of battery cell performance and ageing, and the development of methods of characterization and diagnosis, as well as condition determination and fast charging control.
  • the diagnosis of battery modules and systems, the development of battery management methods such as state estimation and prediction, and the development of optimized operating strategies and energy management methods.


Your profile:

You have an above-average university degree in the field of energy technology, electrical engineering, automation technology or a comparable field. You are interested in analytical and systems engineering issues relating to modern electrochemical energy technologies and have skills in programming and electronics, modelling and optimization, measurement and control technology. Experience in the field of batteries or fuel cells would be desirable, but not a prerequisite. Your working style is characterized by creativity and scientific rigour, resilience and perseverance, cooperation and communication skills.

What we offer:

This is a fixed-term position according to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz and serves to promote scientific qualification. The duration and scope of the fixed-term employment relationship are based on the legal and personal requirements. In all other respects, the employment requirements according to the Bavarian Higher Education Personnel Act apply.
