Full Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry 

at salary grade W3 to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.

We are looking for an internationally renowned and visible scholar who can fully represent macromolecular chemistry in research and teaching and further strengthen the profile of the University of Bayreuth in the field of polymer and colloid research.

In research, the future postholder should have an excellent record in current and promising fields of polymer research. Research activities should focus on the synthesis of novel functional macromolecules and materials, their analytics and their applications under sustainable aspects. Research interests should be on the following topics: e.g. functional polymers, polymer hybrid materials, supramolecular polymer systems, polymer additives, polymers for electro-optical and sensor applications and polymers for modern physical or chemical processing methods. The future postholder is expected to play a leading role in the acquisition of collaborative projects and to actively participate in the establishment, funding proposals and implementation of large research projects (e.g. Collaborative Research Centres, Priority Programmes, Clusters of Excellence in future Bayreuth initiatives).

It is assumed that the successful applicant will acquire third-party funding for his/her research projects. Close cooperation with existing research groups in chemistry, physics and engineering as well as participation in the cross-faculty focus areas of Polymer & Colloid Science and Advanced Materials, along with the Bavarian Polymer Institute (BPI), the Bayreuth Institute for Macromolecule Research and the Collaborative Research Centres SFB 1357 (Microplastics), SFB-TRR 225 (Biofabrication) and IRTG OPTECX is expected.

The successful applicant will be expected to actively contribute to the bachelor's programmes Chemistry, Polymer & Colloid Chemistry and Sustainable Chemistry & Energy as well as to the master's programme Polymer Science and to the relevant minors. The courses offered in the bachelor's programmes are taught in German, whereas they are taught in English in the master's programmes. Participation is expected in the doctoral programme Polymer Science.

In addition to the general legal requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so (Art. 60 para 3 BayHIG).
