Eighty years after the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, researchers from Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) in Poland and the University of Bayreuth are jointly investigating the connections between music, space, and violence in Auschwitz. At a conference taking place from 26 to 28 November in collaboration with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, scholars from around the world will come together to discuss this topic.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the University of Bayreuth, the university and the city have come together to make a joint statement for sustainability and collaboration: 50 trees have been planted near the Botanical Garden – symbolising 50 years of the University of Bayreuth and 50 years of Bayreuth as a university city. In addition, a 51st tree was planted as a “Tree of the Future”, representing the continued growth and unity between the university and the city.

Novel foods based on protein sources from insects offer a promising approach to moving away from conventional food production and towards a more sustainable way of feeding the global population. Solomon Nkaka, a doctoral researcher at the Nutritional Biochemistry research group at the University of Bayreuth, is investigating the quantity and quality of proteins in edible insects and will, for the first time, test the application of insect flours in food products. His project is now being funded by the Simon-Nüssel Foundation.
