The online congress marks the conclusion of the project "Patient Reported Outcomes for Quality Assurance in Endoprosthetics? - Results of the Innovation Fund Project QualiPRO". The research project, which started in 2019, was funded for 38 months to the tune of € 1.4 million from the Joint Federal Committee Innovation Fund. In addition to the University of Bayreuth, partner institutions in the project were the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover, the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Hanover Medical School, DIAKOVERE Annastift in Hannover, AOK Lower Saxony, IGES Institut GmBH in Berlin, and Clinische Studien Gesellschaft - CSG in Berlin.
Within the framework of QualiPRO, more than 720 patients in ten hospitals were interviewed about their personal experience to do with the insertion of an artificial hip joint. The congress will now address the question of how these "Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO)" can contribute to improving medical quality in the field of hip arthroplasty. Among other things, this involves the relationship between subjective self-reporting and objective clinical care data, and an evaluative comparison of PROs with other quality assurance procedures.
"Already in 2016, more than 200,000 patients in Germany received an artificial hip joint. Since then, various initiatives and procedures for quality management in this central field of joint prosthetics have been developed by the health sciences. Our online congress is intended to serve the exchange of experience, and to work out the special importance of self-reporting by those affected. The results will possibly even be transferable to other fields of surgical prosthetics," says congress director Prof. Dr. Martin Emmert. A few months ago, the health economist moved from FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg to the University of Bayreuth. Here he is particularly concerned with quality assurance, determining patient preference, and cost recovery in the field of cancer therapies.
