Cooperation not competition! The four universities in Upper Franconia - the Universities of Bamberg and Bayreuth and the Universities of Applied Sciences in Coburg and Hof - have been working together since 2011 under the umbrella of "TechnologieAllianzOberfranken" (TAO). TAO's task is to strengthen Upper Franconia as a centre of science. A jointly operated building now provides TAO a home on the campus in Bayreuth. This will be celebrated with an official ceremony and an open day in the afternoon.
"We are very pleased that, after the long coronavirus period, we finally have the opportunity to welcome visitors to the TAO building," says Dr Nicole Kaiser, Provost of the University of Bayreuth. "At the open day, our guests will be able to experience the University from a different perspective, and learn about the work being done here."
The programme for the public begins at 2 p.m. Laboratories will welcome visitors, and staff members will report on their work. Moreover, the TAO Student Research Centre has prepared activities for people of all ages to participate in. The engineering degree programmes at the University of Bayreuth will also be presented.
And, of course, there will be many extras, for example, biomaterials researchers will be demonstrating a spider feeding activity, engineers will be offering an "energy technology tour", and there will be insights into high-temperature alloys and ceramics research to enjoy.
The open day ends at 5 pm.
Separate invitations will be sent out for the official ceremony, while the open day is open to everyone.
Parking is available at Prof.-Rüdiger-Bormann-Straße 1, or opposite University Administration (ZUV) at Universitätsstraße 30, Bayreuth.
