The digital transformation is challenging our society and economy. New opportunities and risks are emerging. They are changing the business processes of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as those of large corporations. The new bachelor's degree programme in Business & Information Systems Engineering at the University of Bayreuth will prepare students to help reflect on and shape this digital transformation at the interface of business and IT. The new Bachelor's programme is taught in German.
"Our society urgently needs specialists to drive the digital transformation in all areas," says Prof. Dr. Torsten Eymann, Chair of Business & Information Systems Engineering and programme coordinator of the new bachelor's programme. "The bachelor's degree programme will enable graduates to either enter the workforce, or will open doors to master's degree programmes for more demanding specialist and management tasks."
The bachelor's programme in Business & Information Systems Engineering is designed to span six semesters. In the first four semesters, students will already benefit from the synergies of the subjects of business administration, computer science, mathematics, and the focus on business & information systems management. In semesters five and six, students will be able to choose which area they wish to specialise in and set their own individual focus. The possible specialisation modules are Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, Digital Life, Digital Processes & Products, Energy & Resource Management, Design of Smart Systems, and Strategic Information Management. In addition, practical projects are to be offered, providing training in project management, for example.
The degree programme is embedded in the renowned Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth and the Business & Information Systems Engineering Department, which cooperates very closely with the Business & Information Systems Engineering Project Group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT and the Core Competence Centre Finance & Information Management. For years, the University of Bayreuth has received awards for the intensive professional support it provides its students. In the 2020 CHE Ranking, the central subjects of the Faculty of Law, Business & Economics received the rating "Outstanding".
No special prior knowledge is required for the bachelor's programme, as the programme builds on the knowledge gained in the Abitur (A-levels). Nevertheless, various preliminary courses in mathematics, business administration, and computer science are available as refreshers and preparation.
