Executive Director of Arts Management (m/f/d), (TV-L E14 – 100%)

As Executive Director of Arts Management you will be responsible for leading the Iwalewahaus, an exciting meeting space for engaging with contemporary African and Afro-diasporic art in its global context. Together with the Academic Director (Professor of Global African Arts) it will be your mission to lead the Iwalewahaus towards a successful future.

In particular, your areas of responsibility will include

  • the development, organisation and realisation of the artistic programme in close cooperation with the Academic Director of the Iwalewahaus
  • the administrative management, including budgeting, human resource planning and personnel responsibility, as well as acquisition of third-party funding
  • the further development of the Iwalewahaus in regard to organisation and administration, marketing, event planning and the acquisition of cooperation partners, as well as the active involvement of the Iwalewahaus in various networks


For this position you should meet the following qualifications:

  • a master’s degree in at least one of the subjects relevant to the above-mentioned tasks (e.g. cultural or arts management, arts administration); a PhD would be preferable
  • relevant expertise in the field of administrative processes with first experience with budgeting and personnel responsibility, preferably in the field of cultural or arts management/arts administration
  • several years of practical experience working in an institution with an artistic focus (preferably related to Africa); curatorial experience would be desirable
  • a high degree of independence, teamwork, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • excellent communication skills and a confident personality
  • very good skills in written and spoken German and English


If the personal and pay scale requirements are met, salary will be paid up to pay grade E 14 TV-L. The place of employment is Bayreuth.
