Full Professor for Theoretical Physics of Transport and Conversion Processes in Heterogeneous Environments

At pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,118 euros) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.

We are looking for an internationally outstanding scholar with a background in one of the following areas with a special focus on battery research: modelling of electrochemical processes at interfaces, non-linear dynamics and self-organization in electrically charged systems or dynamics of complex networks. Mathematical and/or computational multiscale and multiphysics methods covering a wide range of length scales from the atomic to the continuum scale are preferred.

An active and responsible role within the newly established Bavarian Center for Battery Technology (www.baybatt.uni-bayreuth.de) is expected. In addition, active participation in the Department of Physics and its collaborative research initiatives to strengthen and complement existing activities is desired. The willingness and ability to acquire external funding must be evident.

Teaching activities should cover theoretical training within the newly established master’s programme Battery Technology and Battery Systems Engineering. The ability to teach in English and German is expected.

In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered.  Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants.

In addition, an extended audit conducted by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) returned a favourable review for the University of Bayreuth’s commitment to internationalization. All qualifications being equal, applicants with disabilities will be given priority.

Please send your cover letter and supporting documents (CV outlining education and academic career, list of publications, list of courses taught, a description of your research, as well as copies of all diplomas and certificates) as a single PDF file (up to 30 MB) to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics & Computer Science Prof. Dr. Stephan Kümmel (dekanat.mpi@uni-bayreuth.de) by 30.09.2020. Application documents cannot be returned to the applicant, and if unsuccessful, the files will be permanently disposed of in accordance with data protection law.
