German magazine Handelsblatt to host Campus Talk at the University of Bayreuth on "Business & Chemistry"

Return to press releases

University of Bayreuth, Press Release No 119/2017, 4 October 2017

The specialty chemistry group ALTANA and Handelsblatt will be hosting the "Handelsblatt Campus Talk" at the University of Bayreuth on 16 October 2017 featuring a line-up of high-profile speakers. The event is dedicated to "Business and Chemistry" and will focus on links between business and research, how innovation processes arise, and knowledge transfer.

The Handelsblatt always hosts its Campus Talk events in cooperation with a different university and partner. The event is designed to encourage knowledge transfer between science and professional practice and is mainly - but not exclusively - geared to students. Guests not only get practically relevant information and the opportunity to discuss topics in the field with business and industry representatives, but also have the chance to speak with them in person.

The University of Bayreuth was chosen to be the next venue because it is, in the words of Handelsblatt, "characterized by an outstanding chemistry department" and "has a special focus on entrepreneurship funding and research." Aside from that, ALTONA and the University of Bayreuth already cooperate with one another. Their experience and the chances they see for the future are among the topics to be addressed in the scope of the Campus Talks on 16 October 2017.

However, the main focus of the event is on innovation processes and knowledge transfer. Aspects of these topics that will be discussed include process chains and the path from research and innovation to product, structures for research; companies, start-ups, and various forms of institutes; and entry-level and development opportunities for students and graduates.

The event will begin with a podium discussion moderated by Bert Fröndhoff (Handelsblatt). The discussion will include the following speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Josef Breu, Chair of Inorganic Chemistry, Chairman of Collaborative Research Centre 840, University of Bayreuth
  • Dr. Christoph Schlünken, Board of Directors, ALTANA AG
  • Dr. Stephanie Hiltl, "Young Talent", Head of F&E Metal Pigments – New Technology, ECKART GmbH, an ALTANA company
  • Prof. Dr. Torsten Eymann, Vice President for Information Technology & Entrepreneurship, Chair of Information Systems Management, University of Bayreuth
  • Prof. Dr. Andreas Greiner, Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry II, University of Bayreuth, Head of Future Solutions, New Materials Bayreuth

In the second part of the event, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and contribute to the discussions. A drink afterwards will give guests the opportunity to have further discussions and get to know each other. They can also learn more about entry-level and development opportunities at ALTANA.

The event is free of charge and is geared to students, doctoral researchers, instructors, and anyone else interested in attending. Members of the press are also cordially invited to attend.
