Study: Current regulations in times of coronavirus

University of Bayreuth teaching in the  2021/22 winter semester - maximum of in-person

For the  2021/22 winter semester, the University of Bayreuth is striving for a maximum of in-person teaching under provision of responsible framework and protection conditions, and is looking forward to a return to more exchange and interaction once again. However, for students from Corona risk groups, participation in classroom events may pose an increased health risk. In this case, the University of Bayreuth is committed to finding alternative solutions for their participation in studies.
Students from risk groups are asked to contact the Diversity Service Office for individual advice and support.

Please assume that your presence on campus and at our branch offices, and thus university as a community experience, will once again be possible to a much greater extent, and align your personal planning accordingly. If the legal situation and the requirements for infection control should change yet again, you will immediately receive new information in this regard.

Use of the PC pools and certain study rooms during the lecture-free period

The PC pools on campus are open during the lecture-free period for students to prepare for exams, courses, and for independent research.  Opening hours correspond to those of the respective buildings. Rooms are cleaned once a day. In addition, from 19.07 to 13.08.2021, students will have access to rooms on campus specifically for studying. These are seminar rooms S 94, S 124, S 125 (GW I), S 76 and S 79 (NW II), S 131, S 132, S 138 (NW III), S 43, S 44, S 45, S 46, S 47, and S 48 (RW I). They are open Monday to Friday from around 8 a.m. until the respective building closes. Rooms S 43 to S 48 are also open on Saturdays from 8 a.m.

Social distance rules apply and FFP2 masks are mandatory in all rooms. Rooms must be ventilated regularly.

Extension of the COVID-related amendments to the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG)

Science Minister Bernd Sibler has announced, in his press announcement on 24.03.2021, that the COVID-related amendments to the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) are to be extended to the 2020/2021 winter semester and 2021 summer semester: “Practically, that will mean that our students’ semester of study and thus also the schedules and deadlines based on their standard period of study will be automatically extended/postponed by one semester. This will give students more time to take examinations. Moreover, the provisions governing the individual standard period of study will also be extended to the 2020/2021 winter semester and 2021 summer semester. This will automatically result in a correspondingly extended maximum period of BAföG benefits.“ More information will be available soon on the websites of the respective examinations offices.

Digital teaching until the end of the lockdown in Germany (for the time being)
Back to digital teaching remains valid: until the end of the current lockdown for the time being. As was the case last semester, exceptions will be made for laboratory work, internships, examinations, practical (including sports) training, and artistic training phases. These may continue to be held in-person under the conditions with which you are already familiar.

  • University Library: Opening of the Central Library and all sub-libraries. Please check the website www.ub.uni-bayreuth.de for current regulations and services.
  • Compulsory wearing of face masks: On the university campus, masks no longer have to be worn outside as long as the specified minimum distance is maintained. FFP2 masks must be worn during face-to-face courses (especially those already in progress and any new face-to-face courses that may be added from 21.06.2021 onwards) on the university campus and in the external offices.
  • Laboratories will remain open for research and also for practical laboratory courses.
  • Study rooms and CIP pools must be closed by 14 January.
  • In-person examinations and courses: Planned written and oral examinations as well as sports, music, and practical artistic in-person examinations will continue to be permitted in compliance with the strict hygiene and social distancing regulations. Practical in-person music courses will also be allowed.
  • Deadlines: With regard to deadlines for module examinations, term papers, and final theses, there is no central regulation or general cancellation of deadlines. Please contact the individual departments for more information.
  • Software: Students with special software needs (e.g. MAXQDA), which can only be accessed free of charge via the CIP pools, should inform their supervising lecturers of this need. You will then be assigned a fixed workstation in a special CIP pool.
  • The Frischraum and the canteens (cafeteria and NW III) are opened with the current range of food - only take away!

In particular, the following provisions apply
