University of Bayreuth, Press Release No. 068/2022 - 6 May 2022
German University Association confirms seal of approval for the University of Bayreuth
The University of Bayreuth (UBT) has once again received the seal of approval of the German University Association (DHV) for fair and transparent appointment negotiations. It was awarded for the first time on January 1, 2019, and UBT has now successfully undergone the re-audit process that is due after three years.
"The University of Bayreuth has remained true to itself and continues to convince as a 'university of short distances'. Negotiations with call holders continue to proceed swiftly and are treated by the chancellor and president as a matter for the boss, regardless of grade," the DHV announced on the occasion of the re-certification. The statement continued, "The very pleasant and constructive climate of negotiations during talks is positively emphasized by all parties involved."

If we want to continue to play in the top league of universities, we must continue to attract the best researchers to the University of Bayreuth. And that includes a good, smooth appointment process.

The DHV also appreciates that the appointment management has been further professionalized by the establishment of appointment staff. "Among other things, this fact shows that the topic of appeals is very important to us," explains University Provost Dr. Nicole Kaiser. She sees the renewed certification as an encouragement and emphasizes the importance of the appointment processes: "If we want to continue to play in the top league of universities, we must continue to attract the best researchers to the University of Bayreuth. And that includes a good, smooth appointment process."
The DHV sees a clear indication that the negotiation processes at the University of Bayreuth are designed to be fair and transparent in the high success rates for appointments. In the years between 2019 and 2021, for example, the university management succeeded in 82.5 percent of all cases in also winning the first-place candidates on an appointment list. The appointments offered by Bayreuth - as has now also been certified by the DHV - are also generally good to very good in terms of both equipment and salary. In addition, the University of Bayreuth offers a wide range of support services for new professors. These include workshops and welcome events as well as excellent continuing education opportunities.
Only in certain areas does the DHV see a need for improvement. The university management wants to take up these helpful suggestions and consider them accordingly in the further development of processes and structures, such as onboarding.
The seal of approval, which was awarded once again, is based on a re-audit process that included interviews with newly appointed professors about their experiences in the appointment process. Further information on the DHV seal of approval is available at: http://www.hochschulverband.de/cms1/guetesiegel.html. The German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV), with more than 33,000 members, is the nationwide professional representative body for scientists and academics.
