In the current, internationally important Shanghai Ranking, the University of Bayreuth has consolidated its position in the 401-500 ranking group after its rise last year. It remains among the top 35 in Germany. The Shanghai Ranking is the most important barometer for a university's research strength and an equally important international benchmark.

A German-Dutch research team, including scientists from the University of Bayreuth, has investigated how age-related changes contribute to an increased risk of falling in older adults. Using computer simulations, they explored specific scenarios involving stepping down from a kerb or stair with varying levels of muscle strength and nerve signal speed—both of which tend to decline with age.

On 9 October 2025, the second Bayreuth IT Criminal Law Day will bring together experts from across Germany to explore aspects of international criminal prosecution in the digital age. Following the great success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s conference will focus on the pressing issues surrounding cross-border evidence gathering and its practical implications for law enforcement — including gaps in current legislation.
