Department of Biochemistry/Protein Design
The Department of Biochemistry/ Protein Design at Bayreuth University invites applications for the following positions in the fields of biochemistry, structural biology and computational modeling, starting September 2017:
Doctoral student (Doktorand/in)
Part time (3 years)
Our research group studies sequence-structure-function relationships with the goal of rationally designing robust and functional proteins (http://www.proteindesign.uni-bayreuth.de). On the one hand we study the evolution of protein folds to learn about the basis of protein stability. On the other hand we use computational design methods to build proteins with new functionalities. Subsequently we test our models in the lab.
Current projects range from de novo protein design via the changing of ligand binding specificities to the construction of biosensors. We combine computational approaches with protein biochemistry and structural biology. The department offers equipment for biophysical characterization via CD, fluorescence, MST and ITC technologies, as well as x-ray crystallography. We further have access to protein NMR and compute clusters through the campus infrastructure.
We are looking for highly motivated students with experience in one of the mentioned techniques and who are enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary and international team.
Salaries will be in accordance with payscale of “Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (TV-L)”.
Applications from handicapped persons will be favored when all other qualifications are equal. The University of Bayreuth is an equal opportunity employer and we therefore especially encourage women to apply.
Applications including a letter of motivation, CV and names and contact of two references should be send to Prof. Birte Höcker preferably by email as a single pdf (email@example.com)
